My family. For many reasons!
I started this mini-series for November to give myself a goal of blogging everyday for the month about the things I am most thankful for. I have always loved these challenges but never stuck to them. I decided this was the year and that there is more than ever to be thankful for and I want to share it with the ones I love most.
Friday night I get a call from my mom phishing for my weekend plans. I really didn’t think anything of it until she told me what they were up too.
Rewind to earlier in the week and one of our many conversations. She told me my dad had taken off Thursday through the following Sunday. I had expressed how I wish they could have came down to see us and my mom quickly reminded me she had to work Friday.
I didn’t think anything of my comment, just saying what was on my mind. It had been so long since they had visited Oklahoma. Thinking back, it was probably not long after Marci Ann was born the last time they came here.
It is hard for everyone, I know, because it is almost a 4 hour trip to and from their house to here now. With my mom working Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays and my dad working full-time as a supervisor it doesn’t leave much time for traveling.
We all do a good job about making sure we see each other, at least, every other month though. Whether it be in Pittsburg, Wichita, or somewhere in between.
Fast-forward again to Friday and my mom expressed how she wanted to surprise us for the weekend. She went ahead and told me even though her original plans were to just show up.
I was elated to say the least and actually in disbelief that they were going to drive all this way just to see us Saturday and Sunday. Lets be honest though, they really just wanted to love on sweet Marci Ann. And they made sure to do it a lot!
My brother was able to come with them as well which was nice since I hadn’t seen him in several months. I was also able to see my sister two weekends ago. The only other person I haven’t seen in awhile is my brother Josh. But I know we will have a week together here shortly!
Living in different states and hours apart from each other (Hays, Kansas; OKC, Ok, Pittsburg, Ks) makes it hard to find time for each other but families make it happen.
Taking the time to drive all that way for 24 hours with us was the best gift of the season!
