Husbands, ever wonder what new moms really want for Mother’s Day?!
I have compiled a list of gifts that any new mother would enjoy for Mother’s Day based on a survey of actual new moms! I have done the hard work for you, now all you have to do is buy!
Sometimes I think it’s easier when kids are older to pick out things for mom’s or to have children create something for them, but what about when they’re just babies?
I feel this is the hardest time for spouses or family to come up with fresh ideas for a mom who’s barely just beginning. The list below contains creative and unique ideas based off of real-life new moms!
1. Massage/Spa Day
Giving birth is no joke! No matter if your wife has never requested a day at the spa, they are bound to enjoy special treatment after a grueling labor! Treat her to a massage, pedicure, manicure, facial, haircut/color, or any combination of the sort. Don’t know exactly what she wants? Get her a gift certificate to a local spa with good reviews or recommendations and let her decide!
What woman does enjoy a glass of wine every now and again? Buy her a bottle of her favorite, hold the baby, and let her soak in the tub! She is bound to come out feeling like a new woman!
3. Car/House Cleaning
I know this is something I desperately need (as I am sure a lot of moms do)! In this new stage of motherhood, it’s hard to find time to do everything on the list. Go detail her car for her, hire someone to clean your home (once, weekly, monthly), or even just ask if there is anything you can help her. I’m sure she could use some help with dishes, laundry, or bathroom cleaning (because we all know that is our least favorite)! She will appreciate the gesture and know that your thinking of ways to help her with the never-ending to-do list!
4. Nanny For A Day
There are some things that need to be done that are 100 times harder to do with a baby. For us it is sorting and paying the multitude of medical bills piling up from a high-risk pregnancy. The amount of phone calls I need to make is astronomical. If you can’t afford a housekeeper maybe hire a postpartum doula or even a friend/family member to come over and love on the baby while your wife gets the endless piles of laundry hung, the dog beds washed, the garage sale they’ve been wanting to do organized, etc. Sometimes new mom’s haven’t quite mastered multitasking yet and could just use an extra pair of hands for a day!
*If you are in the OKC area check out Thrive Mama Collective for all birthing and postpartum needs! They offer great postpartum concierge services for new moms!
5. Vehicle Remote Start
One of my friends had this idea and I thought it was ingenious! You know, when it’s freezing outside and you just want your car to be warm when you get in? Or when it’s so hot the seats are liable to give you third-degree burns the moment you place your hands on them? The answer…remote start for her vehicle!
6. Baby Carrier/Sling
There is nothing quite like wearing your baby! It creates a bond like none other and obviously allows mom’s to be hands free. No joke, carriers and slings can be expensive. Mother’s Day is the perfect time to gift that carrier/sling she’s been eyeballing for a while! And as a bonus, dad’s can benefit from them too! If you don’t believe me check out #babywearingdads on Instagram and gaze upon the glory of what most baby wearing women drool over!
A few of my favorites are the Six-Position All Seasons Lillebaby Carrier, the Sakura Bloom Ring Sling, and the Moby Bamboo Wrap! The great thing about carriers/slings is they usually grow with baby and can be used into toddler-hood!
7. Jewelry/Breast Milk Jewelry
We all know jewelry is a pretty common Mother’s Day gift but think outside the box on this one! Make this piece of jewelry extra special by purchasing an item with your baby’s name or birth stone! Some examples are these adorable bar necklaces, this trendy Alex and Ani Bangle Bracelet Set, or a simple Alex and Ani Birthstone Ring!
For the breastfeeding momma, why not get her some breast milk jewelry!? Use some of that liquid gold to create a unique, one of a kind gift that will allow her to remember the special journey she has embarked on with her little one!
*A ‘local’ Oklahoma shop is The Milky Way Breast Milk Jewelry company located out of Broken Arrow! I know people who have purchased from her and recommend it!
8. New Clothes
Let’s be honest, what women doesn’t want new clothes? I think it is even more true for new moms. Not a lot usually fits after birth. It’s an in between time for our beloved clothes, maternity too big, pre-pregnancy too small! Grab a gift card to her favorite store to help her feel somewhat normal again. Believe me, it will do wonders for her spirit!
9. Family Photos
Usually moms are the ones behind the camera when they have little ones. They are always photographing their babies and loved ones holding them but never themselves with their babies! Book a family photo session so she can have some stylized photos to look back on and remember forever! It’s a gift that never stops giving!
10. A Day With My Husband
This might sound counterintuitive but a lot of time is spent around everything pertaining to your little one. I know some husbands work long hours or multiple jobs, such as mine, so finding time to spend as husband and wife can be difficult. Get some dinner reservations, wine, and always save room for dessert. Or send the baby to a loved ones while you and your wife spend some ‘quality time’ together at home! Whatever you decide, make sure it involves you and her and lots of love!
I hope this list gives you some fresh ideas on what the new mom in your life would enjoy! Remember it’s a day to celebrate mothers and all they do!
