March 21st, 2016 was just a normal day at our house. We both got up to start our day but there was just another added step that happened. I took a Pregnancy test. I had been extremely exhausted the weeks prior to this which is very abnormal for me. I remember running errands on that Saturday falling asleep at the stop lights. I called my best friend and told her what has been going on. She asked me “do you think your pregnant?” I thought to myself there is NO WAY! We aren’t even trying. So that day I picked up a test and the next morning I took it. It was positive and our lives changed for the better!
I called my OB that day and we were set for an appointment in the next three weeks. We went to our appointment thinking we may only be 6 weeks pregnant but turned out we were 11 weeks!! We were over joyed and yet so scared to become parents.
As months went on I felt the need to explore other birthing options. I wanted to birth the way my body was equip too. We talked with my OB regarding natural childbirth and the answer she gave me was a little unsettling and that day I started researching midwives. Long story short we both decided that this option was best for our family and our child. I had a very healthy pregnancy and actually never felt better.
November 4th was my last day of work forever and that week I spent lots of time relaxing and preparing for our baby. Tuesday, November 8th I had a chiropractic massage and I had the okay from my midwife to have a deep massage. My massage therapist hit the correct spots to help my body go into labor. I felt great afterwards, well so I thought.
The next morning I woke up very nauseous which was odd because I had not been very sick at all though my pregnancy. That morning I went and ran the last little bit of errands I needed to finish before our baby would arrived. That afternoon I took a nap only to wake up to try to drink some fluids. I wasn’t keeping anything down throughout the night. My husband went to work on Thursday morning, I slept until about 8 and woke up bleeding. I called my midwife I saw her around 9:30am. I was dilated to a two at this point and my ketosis levels were off the charts. Meaning my body had no fuel. They encouraged me to eat and drink…I tried but that was the hardest thing for me to do.
My doula came to check on me around 1pm and she had told me to just wait and see what happens once the sun went down. Wow! At 3:30pm I started having closer contractions and thought this must be it. I text my midwife and she came to check on me around 6:30pm and I was dilated to a 6! She looked at me and my husband and said “this is it! Call all your people!” I tried to call but I couldn’t so my husband called our family. They started setting up the pool and I just labored as long as I could in our bedroom, kitchen, and living room.
Around 8pm I got into the water. I will NEVER forget this feeling. It was like a ton of bricks lifted off me. It eased the pain and was so warm. I labored for another 3ish hours and our little bundle of joy was born at 11:10pm on 11/10/2016! He was a healthy 8lbs 21 1/2 inches long boy! He came out crying and starving! He was brought to my chest and then I fed him. Not too long after we both got out of the water and cleaned up. They allowed me to just move at my own pace.
After, an hour or so they wanted me to get up out of bed and walk to the restroom. WOW! I was a little dizzy and thought I was going to faint. Well, I didn’t until I was walking back to the bedroom. All I remember is looking up at my midwife and her gently laying me down. They took me back to our room and stitched me up all while Daddy was doing skin to skin. This took several hours. Stanley and Daddy were asleep in the living room while they took care of me. After all was said and done we ate WHATABURGER!!! WOW! That cold burger never tasted soo good!
To our Stanley Vern: you are our greatest joy and funniest adventure! We love you to life monkey!!!
